All About Heather

1. Who are you?

   My name is Heather Renée Holden. (For simplicity, you can just call me Heather.) As a writer, I aspire to be published someday, for both YA and MG audiences. I even have book ideas for this strange breed of creature known as adults. Horror and fantasy are my genres of choice, with some sci-fi thrown in for good measure. (All with a comedic bent, of course!) As an artist, I plan to tackle those same genres, but instead for webcomics.

2. Who inspires you as a writer?

   My biggest inspiration is easily Lynne Ewing, who also happens to be my favorite author. (Has been since 2001!) I adore the way she develops characters, the world they live in, and—if it happens to be a fantasy book—the mythology and magic those characters get messed up with. If you’ve never read anything by this amazing author before, I highly recommend you check out her Daughters of the Moon series first!

   Other writing influences include Amelia Atwater-Rhodes (particularly, for her world-building) and Archie comics (for the comedy). There are many other influences I could list, but that would take ages, so I'll spare you all the torture of that.
   

3. Who inspires you as an artist?

   Many artists have inspired me over the years. Some of my main influences include Holly Golightly, Dan Parent, Matsuri Hino, Gisèle Lagacé, Madame M, Fernando Ruiz, Dan DeCarlo, Starline Hodge, and Stephen Gammell, amongst others.

4. What do you like to do?

   Besides writing and drawing, you mean? I'm a big fan of cross-stitching and sewing, and have also been known to become way too obsessed with reading, watching TV, and listening to music.
   

The TWILIGHT'S EDGE Series

1. What is TWILIGHT'S EDGE?

   Twilight’s Edge is a YA fantasy series I started working on in 2003, then self-published the first book of in 2006. (The sequel, Within the Shadows, came out in 2008.) It chronicles the adventures of Raven Radley, a diabetic high school student who discovers she’s the last existing vampire slayer. This series has since been put on hold, with the first two books now out of print. To learn more, check out the page for the series here.

2. When will BLEEDING DARKNESS come out?

   It won't. My self-published YA fantasy series, Twilight's Edge, has been put on hold indefinitely. You can read more about my decision to do this here.

3. B-but...WITHIN THE SHADOWS had cliffhangers!

   Don’t worry, those cliffhangers will be answered in some form eventually, since I plan to revamp this series for traditional publication, under the new tentative title Ravenous. (More details here.)

The FOR THE LOVE OF GODS Series

1. What is FOR THE LOVE OF GODS?

   For the Love of Gods is the first book in a YA fantasy trilogy, which I began working on in 2007. It's about the snarky teenage son of Psyche and Eros. You can learn more about this series here. The first book is currently a work-in-progress that I hope to query to agents someday.
   

Cruel Melody

1. What is CRUEL MELODY?

   Cruel Melody is a work-in-progress YA fantasy I started writing in July 2011, about a teenage boy who discovers he's a nix--a Germanic water creature capable of shapeshifting and musically manipulating humans. Click here to learn more!
